E-PASSPORT

WHAT IS AN E-PASSPORT ?

E-passports, or electronic passports, are passports with a built-in chip and antenna that hold biometric data about the e-passport holder. As such, e-passports have RF capability and require compliance and interoperability as do all other RFID systems. Compared to RFID tags in closed environments, e-passports are however much more subject to interoperability issues given the open nature of this worldwide deployment project, hence the need for e-passport testing.

FIME EXPERIENCE WITH EPASSPORT TESTING

FIME has performed e-passport testing for several government tenders, and advises manufacturers regarding the compliance of their e-passports. We are closely following the discussions surrounding accreditation for ICAO e-passport testing and will ensure our service is approved by all relevant industry bodies.

WHY PERFORM E-PASSPORT TESTING AT FIME?

Vendors and governments agree that there is a critical need for independent e-passport testing and certification to ensure interoperability between products. FIME provides the entire range of e-passport testing services needed to assess booklets and readers, and works in partnership with manufacturers to enhance the quality of their production. FIME e-passport testing service portfolio covers:

  • Physical durability (specific e-passport testing for the module, the inlay, the cover...)
  • Electrical compliance and durability of booklets and readers
  • RF compliance (characteristics of analog communication)
  • Communication protocol compliance
  • Application compliance
  • Personalization (graphical information)
  • Security
