INTEROPERABILITY TESTING

Interoperability is a key factor in IC market evolution. Whether you deal with smart cards, devices, readers, e-passports or tags, interoperability of system components is a requirement.

WHAT IS INTEROPERABILITY TESTING?

Testing the interoperability of the above mentioned components means making sure that they work properly with one another. Indeed these components are tested, validated and approved according to required specifications, using test tools. Their implementations, though, may prove to be incompatible. This is why interoperability testing comes in after or during approval testing. While performing interoperability testing, you make sure that these different implementations work together.

WHY PERFORM INTEROPERABILITY TESTING AT FIME?

To perform interoperability testing, FIME will:

Assess terminal behavior
Use (whenever possible) real terminals that represent the market
Use terminals approved by test authorities

FIME procedures to verify the interoperability between cards and terminals are backed by strong analysis tools. When interoperability testing yields bad results, FIME experts will look into the details of the communication to locate and understand the failure.

FIME EXPERIENCE IN INTEROPERABILITY TESTING

FIME has gained expertise in interoperability testing through several projects:

  • The development of an integration platform for EMV smart cards and devices
  • The development of a MasterCard PayPass™ combination testing of RF cards and readers
  • The development of interoperability testing of e-passports, as promoted by Interfest
