ePassport reader testing

The purpose of this session is to validate that ePassport reader or terminals will conform to ISO RF requirements. FIME proposes for this session the following tests:

1. Carrier Frequency
The purpose of this test is to determine the carrier frequency and ensure that the terminal is 13.56MHz ± 7KHz.

2. PCD Field Strength
This test is undertaken to determine the field strength produce by the PCD at Hmin and Hmax and determine the operating volume. The results allow checking that the field strength does not excess the limit value defined in the ISO/IEC 14443-1.

3. PCD Field Strength with "Class 1" PICC
This test is to ensure the interoperability between a PCD and a “Class 1” PICC. The procedure is similar to the previous test with a higher load PICC.

4. Power Transfer PCD to PICC (Operating volume)
The purpose of this test is to ensure that the PCD is able to supply a certain power to a PICC. The results of this test provide the field strength produced by the PCD in the operating volume under the defined conditions.

5. Communication Signal Interface / PICC to PCD (Load Modulation Reception)
This test verifies that the PCD is able to detect a PICC answer which conforms to the base standard. The load modulation is adjusted to limit value and the answer is transmitted to the PCD. The answer should be correctly interpreted by the PCD.

6. Communication Signal Interface / PCD to PICC
The purpose of this test is to determine the waveform characteristics of the device under test (modulation index, rise time, fall time, overshoot, undershoot). The measurements are done in the operating volume and for each type (A & B).
